Questions people ask before they book

Insurance, deposits, what to bring and which van to choose.

Booking and collection

What do I need to bring?

Your photocard driving licence, a DVLA check code (from gov.uk, valid for 21 days), proof of address dated in the last three months, your insurance details and a debit or credit card in your name.

Do I need my own insurance?

If you have your own van hire insurance, you can drive any of our vans, and extra drivers on your policy cost nothing more. [Client to confirm whether we can arrange cover for customers without their own.]

How old do I need to be?

If you provide your own insurance, we have no minimum age of our own: your insurer’s rules apply.

How much is the deposit?

Your deposit is refunded straight away when the van comes back as it went out. [Deposit amount, client to confirm.]

Can I drop the van somewhere else?

Yes. You can leave the van at another address and we collect it from there, for a collection charge. Ask for a price when you book.

Can you deliver the van?

Yes. We can deliver the van to your door and collect it when you’re done, for a charge based on the distance. Ask when you book.

What if I need a van urgently?

Yes. We’re open 24 hours, and when it’s urgent we can usually have a van ready within the hour. Call us any time on 07718 178363.

Vans and licences

Can I drive a Luton van on my car licence?

Yes, if you hold a full category B licence. Category B covers vehicles up to 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass, and every van we hire, Lutons included, is 3.5 tonnes or less.

Which van do I need to move house?

As a rough guide: a small van for a few items or a studio, a medium van for a one-bed flat, a large van for long loads or a small two-bed, and a Luton with a tail lift for a two or three-bed house. The van size guide shows each move loaded.

Are the vans manual or automatic?

Both, depending on availability. Tell us if you need an automatic and we’ll do our best to find one.

Do you have straps and blankets?

Straps and removal blankets are available at a small extra cost. Ask when you book.

Prices, damage and payment

Is there a mileage limit?

Every hire includes 100 miles a day. [Charge per extra mile, client to confirm.]

What fuel do I return it with?

The same level it went out with.

What if the van is damaged?

You’re responsible for the full cost of any damage, including the time the van is off the road for repair. We walk round the van with you at collection and note every mark, so you only pay for what happened on your hire.

How can I pay?

[Accepted payment methods, client to confirm.]

Ready when you are

Tell us the van and your dates and we’ll come back to you fast. Open 24 hours, with urgent vans usually ready within the hour.
